KENNEWICK, Wash. -- The Support Advocacy and Resource Center (SARC) is looking for more volunteers to help provide crisis services and education for community members. SARC relies on community volunteers to help run its 24-hour hotline.
These volunteers provide help for victims of sexual assault and abuse.
"I recall with my experience, i was worried that i was going to do something wrong, if I could actually help someone,” said JoDee Garretson, Executive Director of Support, Advocacy & Resource Center. “And what we've found- pretty much everyone who has that concern just being there listening, being able to be a compassionate person is really all that it takes.”
Garretson said it's easy and you can even do it from home.
The Summer 2016 Volunteer Advocate Training for the Support, Advocacy & Resource Center (SARC) will be held from September 6th – September 22nd, 2016, for a total of 32 hours. SARC is in great need of volunteers at this time.
SARC is a non-profit agency serving Benton and Franklin Counties. They provide crisis services and prevention education for community members on issues regarding sexual assault/abuse and all non-domestic violence crimes such as child abuse, elder abuse, assault, homicide, robbery, identity theft and fraud. SARC relies on community volunteers to help run its 24-hour hotline. The volunteer advocates only respond to calls regarding sexual assault/abuse. To be an on-call crisis advocate, all you need is a cell or home phone number and the answering service connects you to the caller. Or, if you are able and willing to meet with clients face to face, you can sign up to be an on-call hospital advocate. The 32-hour training is designed to give volunteers the tools they need to work with victims and their families.
For more information on the many ways you can volunteer, call JoDee Garretson at (509) 374-5391 or email email@example.com to find out how you can make a difference. You can also learn more at the SARC website or their Facebook page.
