Bob Robertson, the voice of Washington State University, died this weekend at his home, according to people who knew the beloved announcer.
He passed away at his Pierce County home on Sunday, although an exact cause of death was not immediately released. Robertson was 92.
Robertson retired from the university nearly two years ago, citing his age.
"I've been with the Cougars a lot of years, more than half a century, calling basketball, football for the fans around the Northwest and elsewhere around the country and I've enjoyed every minute of it," Robertson said in October 2018. "It is a matter of getting old is what it is. Everything seems to move a lot faster around me." Robertson said.
A plaque that commemorates Robertson’s career hangs on a wall at Martin Stadium's press box after it was erected there in 2009.
As word of his death spread, those who knew Robertson shared fond memories of him.
"RIP to a true legend," broadcaster Derek Deis, who worked with Robertson, said on social media. "I will be forever thankful to have worked alongside #BobRobertson these past several years with the Cougar Radio Network."
Information about his survivors and funeral arrangements were pending.
