A trooper with the Washington State Patrol was involved in a shooting in the westbound lanes of I-82, just before exit 109, early Sunday morning.
According to WSP, a trooper radioed to dispatch at 5:54 a.m., stating they were contacting a stranded motorist. Shortly after, just past 6 a.m., the shooting took place.
Neither the trooper nor the individual were injured. The individual was taken into custody without further incident.
As per state law, WSP called in the Tri-Cities' Special Investigations Unit (SIU) to take over the investigation. The trooper involved in the shooting was placed on paid administrative leave per WSP policy.
