FRANKLIN COUNTY, Wash.-- A massive 700 ton haystack erupted into flames overnight.
Officials from Franklin County Fire District Five say they were called out to the scene, at the end of Elm Road, North of Pasco at about 9:20 p.m. Monday night.
Fire officials say it's unknown how the fire got started, however, they say it doesn't appear to be suspicious.
Flames threaten the Juniper Dunes Wilderness Area, across the street and a neighbor's haystack that's about 50-feet away. Fire Officials from Franklin County Fire District 5 and Fire District 4 were able to get the flames under control quickly before they reached either.
Bureau of Land Management will be called out to assist because of the proximity of the fire to the Juniper Dunes, according to fire officials.
Fire crews expect flames to burn for the next several days.
The loss is estimated too be between $140,000 to $150,000 according to Franklin County Fire District 5 officials.
