Alumni help re-open Westgate Elementary
KENNEWICK, Wash. -- Kennewick School District celebrated the opening of Westgate Elementary today with some new faces and some old.
Alumni dating back to the 1950's when the school first opened gathered for Westgate's grand re-opening. The new two-story building has a gym, a music room, reading rooms and thirty classrooms. One teacher, an alumni from the 1990’s, spoke to kids about his experience coming from Ukraine to Westgate.
"You guys come here, and everything's new to you and it might be frustrating, but I went through the same exact thing,” explained 5th Grade Teacher and Westgate Alumni Vitaliy Momotok. “I got to be a teacher here, and they can do the same thing. I hope that some of them do become teachers, especially here."
The two-year project designed and built by Westgate alum cost 18.4 million.
