TRI-CITIES, Wash. - With hurricane and wildfire season right around the corner, the American Red Cross is searching for volunteers this summer to provide a helping hand to those who have been displaced from their homes.

the red cross is recruiting volunteers to help provide comfort and support to people displaced from their homes due to wildland fires... storms... and other emergencies

According to officials from the American Red Cross, there are more than 60,000 emergencies that the organization responds to each year for which volunteers help provide comfort and support to individuals affected by wildland fires, storms, and other emergencies. The organization's need for volunteers has been a priority over the last decade due to responding to more emergencies

"The need for volunteers is constant and truly it is greater than ever as we are responding to more and more disasters and wildfire and hurricane season really haven't even gotten going yet," said Betsy Robertson, who serves as the American Red Cross Northwest Communications Director

American Red Cross officials also noted that while disaster responders are heavily needed this time of year, simple acts like blood donations can help too. People who wish to become a volunteer can sign up for the free training by contacting their local red cross office or visiting the red cross website at www.redcross.org
