Benton County Parks: Stop building cairns
BENTON COUNTY, Wash. - Stacking rocks, or cairn building, is being discouraged at Benton County trails.
Benton County Parks said Tuesday they are starting to see cairn building again at Badger Mountain, and especially at Candy Mountain. The department noted their members disassembled 35 cairns on Monday alone.
The department discouraged cairn building in a Facebook post, stating visitors are asked to practice the "leave no trace" principles as much as possible.
The department is asking visitors to leave groundkeeping to their employees and designated volunteers, as the Friends of Badge Mountain group does a great job of maintaining the trails.
They say the rocks should be left on the ground and the only thing people need to be picking up at parks is their dog's poop.
