OLYMPIA, Wash. - State representatives are in talks with their Olympia colleagues to consider the creation of a 51st state, again.
Matt Shea and Bob McCaslin both Republicans from Spokane Valley have submitted their request for House Bill 1509.
The bill would split the state in half at the cascades separating Eastern Washington from Western Washington.
The land on the west side would remain the state of Washington, while the land on the east side would be an entirely new state named Liberty.
Shea and McCaslin have submitted a similar proposal previously.
If this bill were to pass, congress would need to approve the new state in accordance with Article IV, Section 3 of the U.S. Constitution.
More information on the Liberty State can be found on its website.
