Car prowls in Kennewick have police on the lookout

Police say leaving windows open puts you at risk

As the summer months heat up, we all want to drive with our windows down. Just make sure you put them up after you park.

Kennewick police are warning of car prowls happening across the city.

The evening of June 18 and into the morning of June 19, six cars parked in hotel parking lots in Kennewick were broken into, police said. All of the victims had a window broken and valuables stolen, Kennewick Police Sgt. Aaron Clem said.

Kennewick police said the easiest way to keep you and your car safe from car prowls are to roll up your windows, lock your car doors and take all valuables inside.

“I’ve had cars broken into before, and truthfully I don’t keep anything in the car that’s valuable.” Michael Haeg, resident of Kennewick said.

Trusting your instincts and being aware of your surroundings can prevent you from being a car prowl victim, police said.

“Don't give the criminals an opportunity to break into your car and steal something,” Clem said.

If you see a car prowl, call the Kennewick Police Department at 509-585-4208.
