KENNEWICK, Wash. — The Port of Kennewick announced the Clover Island Boat Launch has reopened after a clean-up of debris from a massive fire that damaged four boathouses on Dec. 7.
On Jan. 13, the Port of Kennewick was notified by the Department of Ecology that there was no longer any danger from submerged materials; and that boaters could utilize the public launch.
The Clover Island Boat Launch is owned by the Port of Kennewick and is located on Clover Island in east Kennewick.
The launch was closed on Dec. 7, by the Department of Ecology which has been overseeing clean-up and removal of debris following an early morning fire involving Clover Island Yacht Club boat houses.
Officials said two boathouses were a complete loss from the massive fire and an additional two boathouses sustained minor exterior damage. It is estimated between 50-150 gallons of boat fuel spilled into the water as a result of the fire.
