Coming soon to Southridge Sports Complex: Shade
KENNEWICK, Wash. —
If your kids love playing outside but don't care for hot slides or sunburns, you're in luck.
Southridge Sports Complex announced plans to install permanent shade structures over the playground next to the GESA Carousel of Dreams.
City leaders say they're also adding a few smaller coverings over the benches around the playground and splash pad.
Recreation supervisor Brandon Lange says the installation was an easy decision.
"A bunch of people said, 'Oh the slides are too hot, there's no shade out there'," he explained. "As you know Southridge is fairly new and trees take a long time to grow so we needed to provide some shade for families attending the park."
Lange says they'll start working on the new installation in a few months when the weather warms up.
