KENNEWICK, Wash. -- The Port of Kennewick welcomed a special guest today.
Congressman Dan Newhouse made his way over to the Tri-Cities to visit Clover Island.
Port representatives shared a presentation with Newhouse updating him on the projects they've done and projects they're currently working on.
They've recently completed revitalizing the shoreline on the island.
The port has also added commercial buildings- bringing jobs and activity to the area.
They are working with the city to build wineries along the Columbia Shoreline.
"The Columbia River is such an iconic part of our community. There aren't a lot of places you can come put and enjoy it like you, so it really opens up access to the Columbia River," said Congressman Dan Newhouse.
The port is set to improve walkways on the island as well.
Several projects are still in the planning phase, but we should start to see construction in 2017 or 2018.
