Extra seat belt enforcement in Washington through early June
TRI-CITIES, Wash. - The annual Click It or Ticket campaign begins Monday when extra seat belt and child car seat patrols will be on duty throughout Washington state.
The campaign runs from May 14 until June 3, which includes Memorial Day weekend, typically one of the busiest travel weekends of the year.
More than 150 law enforcement agencies across Washington state will participate.
Washington state laws require that everyone in a motor vehicle wear a safety restraint that is properly fastened.
According to a report from the Washington Traffic Safety Commission, people are buckling up at a rate of 93 percent in Benton County and 94 percent in Franklin County.
The fine for not wearing a seat belt or appropriate child restraint is $124.
