Fire extinguished at Borleske Stadium

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - Firefighters say the grandstand at a local baseball stadium caught fire, Monday evening, causing roughly $8,000 of damage.

The Walla Walla Fire Department went to Borleske Stadium around 5:40 p.m., Monday, to find smoke coming from behind the grandstand.

The department requested assistance from Walla Walla County Fire District #4.

Leaders said fire crews noticed the smoke was coming from a vent on the back of the grandstand, around a door and through cracks in the wall.

Crews found fire at one wall inside the room and were able to extinguish the flames quickly, according to reports.

No one was injured in this fire.

Investigators have not figured out what caused this fire, and said there was no operating equipment inside the room.

A report stated asphalt was being applied to the ground outside the grandstands 15 minutes before the fire started, but firefighters said no connection has been found between these events.

Whitman College Chief Financial Officer Peter Harvey is responsible for the property, with Tim Duncan managing it.
