Firefighters respond to Burbank fire that threatened homes
BURBANK, Wash. —
Fire crews responded to a natural cover fire that threatened homes in Burbank Saturday evening.
According to Walla Walla County Fire District 5, the fire began around 4 P.M. just off of Ice Harbor Drive near Hood Park.
The fire burned around 30 to 40 acres and caused heavy smoke.
Officials say about a dozen agencies responded to the scene.
The fire forced the closure of State Route 124 for a few hours.
The cause of the fire is unknown, but fire district officials do suspect that a hay bale or sawdust bale spontaneously combusted.
Crews spent about six hours on scene.
No one was hurt.
