Firefighters trying to put out fourth Zintel Canyon brush fire of the year

KENNEWICK, Wash. - Crews are working to put out a fire at Zintel Canyon burning somewhat close to homes.

Firefighters responded Wednesday around noon to the fire at the canyon located between W. 10th and W. 7th Avenue. The city announced due to the fire, the Zintel Canyon Trail is now closed from 7th to 15th Avenue.

The fire was first reported after someone living in the neighborhood smelled smoke, went outside to investigate and discovered flames burning brush. The fire is not currently threatening any homes in the area.

At least one fire engine was able to drive into the canyon in an effort to attack the fire.

This would be the fourth fire at this canyon since April of this year. Firefighters said these fires are considered suspicious.

The exact cause of this fire is unknown at this time.

Multiple fire crews are working to extinguish this fire to prevent flames from spreading closer to homes.
