Former Tri-Cities Prep athlete recovering after car crash
PASCO, Wash. - A former Tri-Cities Prep student athlete is in a hospital in Arizona.
Danika Whitsett was ejected from a car she was riding Friday morning, when it was struck on the highway.
She's come out of her coma but is still fighting pneumonia and numerous broken bones and cannot feel her legs. Danika was a three-sport athlete at TCP where he father, Dan, is the athletic director and head football coach.
Hours after finding out that their dear friend was in a fight for her life, Taylor Zavala and Rachel Armijo began a Go Fund Me account to help with medical expenses.
In four days, it's already raised $17,000.
The support has been overwhelming, but family and friends say this just shows the type of person Danika is.
There is a Rosary and Mass Tuesday starting at 6:30 p.m. at St. Joseph Church in Kennewick in Danika's honor.
