Just In: Suspected WinCo Gunman to have mental evaluation
BENTON COUNTY, Wash. -- During an arraignment on Thursday morning, a Benton County judge granted an order for Matthew David McQuin to undergo a mental health evaluation.
McQuin is accused of shooting a 33-year-old woman inside WinCo. After firing the shot, police say McQuin was then seen on surveillance walking to the front of the store and putting the gun down.
He's been charged with attempted murder.
In court, Action News learned that a mental health evaluation will check McQuin for diminished capacity, competency and insanity.
McQuin told police he believed the woman he is suspected of shooting was following him and was going to spray him with a chemical, according to court documents.
McQuin is scheduled to return to court on September 20th.
