Kennewick PD Chief honored for 40 years of service
KENNEWICK, Wash. —
It's been exactly 40 years since the Kennewick Police Chief Ken Hohenberg started working in the Kennewick Police Department.
On Tuesday night the chief received a surprise celebration at the Kennewick city council meeting.
Chief Hohenberg began working at the department back in 1978.
He says in that time, he's seen real positive changes when it comes to their hiring practices and to their work with community care fund.
While the event was supposed to be a surprise, Chief Hohenburg says he started to get an idea that something was going on: ”When I saw the alumni people and then when I spotted my wife and oldest daughter, I was like ‘Something’s up.’ I haven’t lost that much even though I’ve been off the street for a long time, but I’m still a trained observer.”
The police chief adds that he doesn't plan to retire any time soon and wants to continue working on addressing issues in the city, including school safety.
