Kennewick Police Investigate Report of Shots Fired
KENNEWICK, Wash.-- Kennewick Police and Benton County Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of shots fired Tuesday evening in a quiet residential area.
Police say a call came in right before 6pm of gun shots being fired near a home on South Jefferson Street and West 4th Street, in Kennewick.
Neighbors told officers the shots were fired after a dispute between neighbors.
Witnesses say one of the people involved in the argument got out a gun, shot a few rounds in the air, and went back inside the home.
About 15 units from both agencies stayed on scene, trying to contact the man accused of firing the gun for over an hour, but ultimately made the decision to leave because after several commands over a loudspeaker, no one came out of the home.
Police say because there was time the suspect could have gotten away before they arrived on scene, and because shooting a gun in the air is a gross misdemeanor, they made the call to leave the area and have detectives remain on scene.
