KENNEWICK, Wash. - As of Thursday, the Kennewick School District has announced that they have made calendar changes to make up for the missed snow days they had in February.
The school district sent out a release on Thursday that stated:
The Kennewick School District Board of Directors has made changes to the 2018-19 calendar in order to make up for lost instructional time due to snow days.
After looking at a variety of options to meet the state’s instructional time requirement, the School Board decided to make changes that keep the last day of school as close to the original planned date as possible.
This will be done by adding school days to the end of the year, using a planned snow-make up day, applying for a state waiver, and eliminating early release time on the calendar.
The changes are:
The last day of school has moved to Friday, June 14. This will be a full school day.
Friday, May 24 will become a school day. This was previously indicated as a snow make-up day if needed on the school calendar.
There will be no Wednesday Early Releases or early releases for Report Card Prep for the remainder of the school year beginning March 25, 2019. Early release for parent and student conferences will still occur.
Graduation dates will remain the same and NO SENIOR SATURDAYS will be needed.
We want to thank the Kennewick Education Association for offering to eliminate early release time in the teachers’ contract for the remainder of the school year and for working with us to reduce the number of make-up days needed.
