KENNEWICK, Wash.-- One person has been hit by a car and taken to the hospital in the area of Olympia near 14th Avenue, according to Kennewick Police.
Authorities were called out just before 6:45a.m. after a white passenger car struck a man in the roadway, early Thursday morning.
The driver of the car did stay in the area, the man that was hit, was taken to the hospital with severe injuries.
The area of Olympia near 14th Ave. is currently blocked off, people are encouraged to find an alternative route.
According to the Kennewick Police Department: An 82 year old male, identified as Marin Cesar-Ochoa, had been hit by a car while crossing Olympia St. and was rushed to the hospital.
His injuries were too severe and he did not survive.
The Kennewick Police Traffic Unit closed Olympia St between 13th and Park Hills Drive for approximately 3 hours while collision investigators collected evidence.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Kurtis Hickey of Kennewick, called 911 immediately after the collision and stayed on scene.
As of now, Kennewick Police say they do not believe alcohol or drugs were involved in this collision, nor is speed a factor.
The Police do believe that the weather at the time played a role in the collision.
Cesar-Ochoa was crossing the street in a dark area and wearing darker colored clothing but he was not in a crosswalk.
Next of kin has been notified.
