Mother's Day power-outage causes headache for businesses near Columbia Center Blvd.
KENNEWICK, Wash. —- A power outage in Kennewick left 3,800 customers without power for hours Sunday afternoon.
Benton PUD said the outage was caused by a squirrel, and affected stores and traffic around Columbia Center Blvd.
During the outage, Costco's alarms began sounding and employees closed the store until Kennewick Fire Department could check things out.
A store employee told Action News there was no fire.
The alarms were merely backup generators for the store's may refrigeration units letting them know they were running out of juice.
Other businesses, including the Olive Garden restaurant, had to keep guests waiting outside as employees got things set up for Mother's Day.
Crews restored power shortly after 1 p.m.
