KENNEWICK, Wash. -- Neighbors called 911 after reportedly hearing a patio cover collapse under the weight of snow and ice on Wednesday evening.
The collapse occurred on the 100 block of South Vancouver Street in Kennewick.
Neighbors heard a loud crash and saw the destruction of a neighbor's patio roof at around 7:30 p.m.
Luckily, no one was injured.
Police tell Action News that the residents were not home at the time of the collapse.
Officials believe the melting snow created a pool of water that kept refreezing on the flat roof of the patio. That added weight likely caused the patio to collapse.
The patio collapse also damaged the side of the home and some patio furniture.
Several officers and fire fighters responded to the incident as a precaution.
The incident resulted in authorities blocking the road for several minutes.
