No classes Thursday for Park Middle School due to flooding, power outage
KENNEWICK, Wash. - Classes are cancelled for a second consecutive day due to a power outage at Park Middle School in Kennewick.
The Kennewick School District (KSD) announced Wednesday there will be no classes Thursday, May 17, at Park Middle School while staff works to restore power.
This would be the second day in a row classes have been cancelled for maintenance issues at the middle school.
Students will instead have the opportunity for a free breakfast and lunch at the school parking lot Thursday. According to a Facebook update, free breakfast will be offered from 8- 8:30 a.m. and lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
A water main pipe broke Tuesday night flooding the school basement, according to staff. The flooding covered electrical panels and leaders said the issue will require significant work to restore power.
The water pipe has been repaired, but power is still out and the main electrical panel needs replacement.
There is no estimated time of when power will be fully restored.
An update will be sent out regarding the status of classes for Friday. District leaders are assuring families crews are working as quickly as possible to make the school fully operational.
