Online portal lets victims track progress of sexual assault kit analysis
OLYMPIA, Wash. - Survivors of sexual assaults in Washington state can now track the progress of their kits being analyzed through a new online portal.
The Washington State Patrol says this week they implemented a new tracking system for survivors, lawyers, medical staff and law enforcement to follow the testing process.
In October, the state found that almost six and a half thousand rape kits are sitting untested in labs, the oldest dating back to 1982.
The patrol's forensic lab says kits usually take four to six weeks to process.
