Outdoor store and enthusiasts encourage shoppers to 'Opt Outside' on Black Friday
TRI-CITIES, Wash. – #OptOutside is a campaign where REI closes all its doors nationwide on Black Friday, encouraging its customers away from shopping and materialism to instead spend the day outside recreating with friends and family.
"Customers will not even be able to shop the website, unless they are shopping for local trails they can access for the day REI," said David Quinlan, market coordinator at REI.
This year, REI is partnering with Tapteal Greenway by organizing two hikes of varying distances the community can participate in.
Hikers will meet at the W.E. Johnson north end parking lot (end of Hall Rd by Woods Nursery at the archery range) at 10:00 a.m.
There will be two distances offered, 2.9 miles and 5.5 miles.
The 2.9 mile hike will end at Chamna Natural Preserve and the 5.5 mile hike will finish at Columbia Point Park.
Tapteal Greenway will provide shuttle service from Chamna and Columbia Point back to W.E. Johnson Park. Bring water, appropriate clothing, and friends!
More than 50 folks turned out on Black Friday at last year’s hike with Tapteal.
