Pasco police investigating fatal shooting; suspect in custody

PASCO, Wash. - Police say a murder suspect has been arrested after a man was shot to death in Pasco.

Pasco police arrested 27-year-old Victor Alfonso Paniagua, of Pasco, Sunday after 47-year-old Abel Yanez Contreras was found dead in the front doorway of a home at 502 S. 22nd, where the victim lived.

A report of the shooting came in around 1:18 p.m., Sunday. According to authorities, and initial report stated a man had been shot in the head and appeared to be dead.

Police interviewed witnesses who said the shooting suspect fled the scene before police arrived.

Police, with the assistance of numerous area agencies, found Paniagua at a room in the Tahitian Inn. Police said the suspect eventually walked out and he was arrested and taken in to custody around 5:15 p.m.

He was booked into Franklin County Jail on suspicion of first degree murder.

Police say the Franklin County Prosecuting Attorney's Office will review this case for charges.
