KENNEWICK, Wash. (KEPR) — Police say Nathan Lee Webster, 20, admitted to beating his own 14-day-old child causing extensive injuries to his son's head and face.

In court on Monday, a judge set bail at $350,000. If he is charged, a judge said Webster could spend 10 years in jail.

Police were called to a Kadlec Emergency Room at 1 p.m. Wednesday due to severe injuries to a newborn baby.

Medical staff told police that Webster and the child's 19-year-old mother had admitted their son. Medical staff said the infant had a skull fracture, bruising and swelling on the left side of his face. The parents allegedly told medical staff they were unaware of how the baby received the injuries.

Kennewick detectives interviewed the parents individually and arrested the Webster for suspicion of assault of a child in the second degree. According to court documents obtained by KEPR Action News, Webster eventually admitted to slapping the child twice on the head.

According to the prosecuting attorney, Webster has been calling the child's mother and allegedly telling her to withhold information from police as they investigate the case.
