KENNEWICK, Wash. -- Police say two cars were racing on highway 397 when one of the cars smashed into another truck.

The high-impact crash sent two people to the hospital on Monday afternoon.

Maria Polanco, 53, of Kennewick, and Alex Ramos, 19, of Pasco, both suffered injuries in the crash.

Authorities say a BMW driven by Ramos was speeding in the southbound lanes of 397 near Gum street.

His car crashed into a Dodge truck driven by Polanco. The crash forced Ramos' car off the road.

Ramos will likely be charged with negligent driving for speeding, police said.

Authorities tell Action News the other car speeding with Ramos was red.
