Police watching out for heroin

It's a fight that never stops. Just a month into the new year, authorities are tracking a new drug trickling into our neighborhoods.

This year, The Metro Drug Task Force says they're keeping a close eye on black-tar heroin.

Action News learned more people in the Tri-Cities are turning to the drug from prescription pills. Heroin is cheaper... easier to get... and offers a similar high. Police say they gather information from informants --and even welcome your tips.

"And that allows us to kind of look at something more seriously, and we pay attention to things because people tell us - hey, this is going on. Our eyes and ears are the public," said Kennewick Police Commander Trevor White.

We're told seizures of heroin are increasing along the border with Mexico. And It's why the task force is staying alert in our area.
