KENNEWICK, Wash. -- The playground at the Southridge Sports and Events Complex will be closing this week as crews install a new shade structure.
The new shade canopy is designed to cover the entire playground apparatus at the park.
Officials say six, smaller shade structures will hang over benches at the playground and adjoining splash pad.
The playground will be closed for less than two weeks during the installation.
A spokesperson for the parks department tells Action News the park should be open before children are out of school for the summer.
Sunset Park is the only other park in our area that has a similar shade structure.
