Santa visits new co-op to support Meals on Wheels for pets
PASCO, Wash. —
Santa Claus made an appearance at the grand opening of a new co-op in Pasco on Saturday.
The jolly old man posed with pets and people in support of his four-legged friends.
The new Bleyhl Co-Op on Chapel Hill Blvd. organized the event to raise money, and awareness, for Mid-Columbia Meals on Wheels for pets, a non-profit helping homebound seniors feed their companion animals.
Bleyhl manager Danielle Marshall says sometimes a pet is the only companion home bound seniors see all day, so they’ll sometimes sacrifice food or medication to make sure their friend gets fed.
She says the photo-op is a good way to spread the word.
"When you're in the middle of shopping for other people and you realize there's this big donation bin and you see that there's Meals on Wheels for pets. People recognize Meals on Wheels, it causes them to stop and actually think why there would be a program like this and why there's such a large need that sometimes isn't talked about,” she explained.
Marshall says the new co-op is offering ten percent off food donations purchased in the store.
Anyone can drop off donations through the end of the month.
