Sheriff's Office investigating human bones found at Carbody Beach
FRANKLIN COUNTY, Wash. - The Sheriff's Office says remains of a human body have been discovered at a Franklin County beach.
Authorities said the skeletal remains were found Thursday night at Carbody Beach at the end of Columbia Road, north of Pasco along the Columbia River. The beach has been closed while authorities investigate and process a half-mile area.
The Franklin County Sheriff's Office says the bones were that of an adult, but due to the state of decomposition investigators have not determined if the remains belong to a man or woman.
Investigators say the area may not be reopened Friday.
Officials inform Action News the bones will be sent to an anthropologist in King County who will assemble the bones to determine if they match with any missing people.
"It is safe to say that the body looks like it maybe had floated to the beach possibly or that it's been down along the waterline for quite some time," says Franklin County Sheriff Jim Raymond.
