Tip a cop to support the Special Olympics

KENNEWICK, Wash. -- You've probably never had a cop take your drink order before, but at Red Robin in Kennewick today, officers are serving up refills for a special cause.

Cops went table to table, earning tips to donate to the Special Olympics.

Special Olympic athletes also came by, showing off their medals and talking about what it means to them.

The athletes compete in sports such as track and field, basketball, and softball.

One athlete says, win or lose, she feels accomplished when she does her best.

"It really shows us that everybody cares about us,” athlete Deedee Olsen said. “Because in the past we used to feel excluded. But by them doing this, it helps show we have a lot of love and support."

If you want to show your support to the special Olympics, cops will be at the Kennewick Red Robin until 9 p.m. Saturday.

The money will help fund items such as uniforms, equipment, and transportation.
