Two Boys Safe After Water Rescue Launched

Dive Rescue Launched

BENTON CITY, Wash.-- Authorities in Benton County say everyone is okay after launching a water rescue Tuesday evening.

Benton County Sheriff's Deputies say they were looking for two young boys who, as it turned out, weren't even in the water.

Sergeant Erickson with the Benton County Sheriff's Office said they received a report from the parents of two 12-year-old boys that they hadn't heard from their kids.

The boys had last been seen playing on a rope swing on the Yakima River, just outside of Benton City.

The parents told deputies they had been searching and needed help.

Emergency responders and the Columbia Basin Dive Rescue team stepped in, as well as a life-flight helicopter.

An hour into the search, the parents reported they finally got a text from their boys, saying they went to a friend's house.

Sergeant Erickson says at the end of the day, they're happy the boys are okay and they'd rather be safe than sorry.
