Violent assault sparks massive manhunt; school lock down

RICHLAND, Wash. -- Police arrested 35 year-old Edgar Solano after they say he violently beat a woman as she held her two year-old child.

Officers say the attack happened at a home near the intersection of Swift and Smith in Richland.

Police say Solano brutally beat the woman before she managed to get away and run outside for help.

Solano ran away from the home but was tracked down and arrested at a nearby hotel.

Police say the two year-old child was unharmed but covered in mom's blood.

The child and woman were taken to a hospital for treatment. Police say the woman suffered significant injuries to her face and ribs.

Several area schools were on lock down as a precaution after the attack. Lock down procedures were lifted at 11:30 am.

Police say Solano and the victim know each other and this was not a random act of violence.
