KENNEWICK, Wash. — Two Kennewick entities received a prestigious award from the state on Tuesday.
Both the City of Kennewick and the Port of Kennewick accepted the 2018 Governor's Smart Communities/Smart Partnership Award for their work on the Vista Field project's master plan.
The project aims to develop an area of Kennewick on Deschutes Avenue that was home to an old airfield and put in a mix of residential commercial and public space.
Mayor Don Britain says, “It shows the commitment of both organizations, the Port of Kennewick and the City of Kennewick, to come together, work out what needs to be worked out for the betterment of the entire community, not just Kennewick, but the entire Tri-Cities area.
Port of Kennewick commissioner Thomas Moak adds, “To be recognized by the state for all of the work that we have done so far I think is really tremendous and I think it validates the partnership that we really have developed over these years.”
Phase one of the project is expected to start in the fall and will open up about 20 acres and see the construction of a road.
