'Grabbed a stick and started hitting him': 16-year-old girl fights off potential kidnapper
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — A teenage girl is relieved to be with her family after she says a man tried to abduct her outside her home.
It’s not a damsel in distress story. 16-year-old Trinity Moore put up a fight, at one point she even picked up a stick and repeatedly whacked the man with it until he left her alone.
Moore had gotten out of school early and was waiting outside her house in Northwood for her family to get home with the keys.
“I sat in that chair over there. I was on the phone with my girlfriend of course,” Moore said.
That’s when she noticed something unusual.
"The white van comes up and down the street so I got scared,” Moore said.
Moore told CBS12 the first thing she did was go over to her parent's window and started taking down panels so she could climb inside.
"As soon as I get in, he’s like standing with his hands right here trying to get in,” Moore said.
That's when Moore said she grabbed the first weapon she could find.
"I grabbed a stick and started hitting him repeatedly,” Moore said.
The person she describes as a tall, black man went through the back and disappeared.
The entire time, Moore said all she could think was the worst.
"That I might not ever see my family again,” Moore said.
As soon as he was out of sight, she went next door and called the police. Her family arrived shortly after.
“I'm glad that she’s ok and just the way she was telling the story was really wild to me too,” Moore’s father Timothy McNealy said.
Now her father has a message for other parents.
"There’s more daughters around here you know? So, I don’t like it at all,” McNealy said. “Keep your guard up.”
The family told CBS12 News that police grabbed fingerprints while on the scene, and they’re hopeful they’ll be able to find the suspect.
